Happy Halloween

My day began with a bit of a horror. I couldn't sleep last night so this morning I took some extra time getting going (we are flex time). That would have been fine....except for the traffic jam. I never saw it ( does anyone?). It took me two hours, almost exactly, to get to work this morning. One stretch of 4 miles took me 40 minutes to travel...Grrr. Oh and I discovered that there were some "unsanctioned" debits to my ATM card. So now I have to go to leave early, go to the bank, fill out paperwork and get a new ATM card (in a week or so). Fuckety fuck fuck.

Oh yeah....BOO!

It's Halloween week!!

I have a few things to comment on today:

a) Ok I admit it. Halloween is my favorite holiday. Well actually it's the only holiday I like much at all. Sure Thanksgiving is nice. mmmmm...triptofan. But really how do you not just go ape-shit over Halloween. As my lovely and talented fiancee Patience has told me, with several of her female PhD friends, Halloween is an opportunity to look "sexy". Now I am not gonna argue against that as I get to the bulk of the benefits on that one. Look it's a great excuse to dress like a fool and not have anyone care. Good times! I am not doing any great costuming this year, sadly, do to my lack of $$ 'til after Christmas (a holiday that sucks ass). But I will still be enjoying it a stupid amount. Living where I do, just down the road from the middle of nowhere, I don't get trick-or-treaters and that's kind of a bummer for me. I would love to be able to be the "scary house" in the neighborhood. I don't have a neighborhood. I have woods and fields. That means I don't get to use things like these great flamingos. Oh well.

2) I have been paying a lot more attention to my site statistics lately. It's interesting to see where in the world you people are sitting while reading this nonsense. That leads me to this observation. My dad spends to much time on his computer. (Hi Dad.) Now I've known that both of my parents look at my blog, they've told me so often enough, but it's different when you are confronted with the actual number of hits. Something about its being measured and written down makes it impossible to treat as an abstract thought. Not unlike saying "people do hit a lot of deer" vs. actually hitting a deer. It is gorily real.

No really I'm busy

I spend probably 8-10 hours a day attached to the net in some way or another. Mostly it's while, like now, I'm working. Yes I am working and blogging @ teh same time. It's easy when you have multiple monitors and no supervision. One of the many things that has filled my life with newfound joy (my amazing fiance aside) is this great website for geeks like me. It's called thinkgeek. They have just teh tastiest geek toys ever. I have spent far, far too much time there. Below are some random quotes from the site that caught my eye and made me laugh.

It might look like I'm doing nothing, but at the cellular level I'm really quite busy

You are not a beautiful and uniqe snowflake,
you are the same decaying organic matter as everything else....

pass the salt please.

I'm lost. I'm going to find myself. If I return before I get back, please let me know.

I just know there is a duck somewhere...watching me...

If there's anything more important than my ego around I want it caught and shot now.

I wanna own a strip club full of monkies on steroids.

The other day, I was in the elevator with one other person, and I couldn't help but think that if one of us farted, we would both know who did it.

More fun than sitting on a water fountain in a shopping mall.

I thnk it is funny that I actually get paid for hitting f5 all day.

The Geeks will inhreit the earth, but they will only have read access

You should really go there and buy stuff. They have evil rabbit slippers for god's sake!

wandering and concrete domes

Sunday evening I went for a really long walk with Patience. We wandered a little over 5 miles on the trail outside my farm. The weather was incredible and we just talked and walked and walked and talked. Very much with the fun. Times like those when everything is so easy and the future (a big part of the conversation) looks so bright are really special. We talked about building a house on the farm that was super envirotastic. One of the ideas was for a concrete dome home like the one above. There are so many really cool things you can do with the basic form it’s amazing. Anyway go and look at this site. It is very cool.
